William Morris - 'Trellis' 1862


  • William Morris‘s first wallpaper design
  • Design of Trellis represents the roses of his garden at his house
  • And represent the pattern of the nature

The elements of design :-
  1. Implied texture, makes the graphics look smooth and soft
  2. Tertiary colors. example, red, green and yellow.
  3. Value, high contrast of the color.
  4. Line, refers to the continuous movement of a point along the surface. There are curved, horizontal line, vertical line, wavy and parallel.
The principle of design :-

  1. The center of interest is the rose, which is red in color. it tends to attracts people attention.
  2. The graphics show asymmetrical balance design.
  3. The graphics also show the repetition of flowers. The same sizes and patterns of the flowers.
